Mohammad Mokhber, an advisor and assistant to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, criticized Saudi Arabia's military actions in Yemen in a post on his personal social media account on Wednesday. According to Mehr News, Mokhber described the Saudi attacks as being directed at "the oppressed, resistant, and faithful people of Yemen" and said they represent "stepping on a wrong path." He emphasized the need for Saudi Arabia to learn from the record of trusting the United States.
Mokhber wrote that "the war with Yemen is nothing but fratricide and depleting Saudi Arabia's lives and properties." He added that "weapons should be precisely pointed to the number one enemy of the Islamic world, namely the Zionist regime, rather than the faithful and resistant people of Yemen." He also stated that "Riyadh is playing [US President Donald] Trump's ploy," suggesting that Saudi Arabia is being used to advance American interests.
Furthermore, Mokhber said that "history shows that the US sacrifices its allies," and warned that "the Saudis should not forget this lesson." The comments come amid ongoing tensions in the region and highlight Iran's opposition to the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen.
Mokhber's remarks reflect Iran's longstanding position against the Saudi intervention in Yemen, which began in 2015. Iran has repeatedly called for a political solution to the conflict and criticized the humanitarian impact of the war. The Saudi-led coalition has faced international criticism for civilian casualties and the blockade of Yemen, which has exacerbated one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
According to Mehr News, Mokhber's post also touched on the broader regional dynamics, including the role of the United States and its allies. The report by Mehr News added that Mokhber's statements are part of Iran's ongoing criticism of Saudi policies in the region.
