Iranian cleric says Janfada campaign needs precise understanding of its roots

Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Qomi, speaking at a gathering of cultural researchers on Saturday at the Art Bureau of the Islamic Revolution, addressed the theological and social foundations of the "Janfada" (Sacrifice for Iran) phenomenon. Referring to narratives produced by foreign media outlets about the campaign, Qomi noted that some accounts claim students are being told at school that they must register for campaigns such as Janfada or face expulsion.
