Iran FM Araghchi says Israel seeks to weaken regional countries

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Israel is seeking to weaken the countries of the region and is trying to sow discord and division among them. He made the remarks at a ceremony held at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, held to commemorate Kamal Kharrazi, the former head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.

Araghchi said that any security plan originating from within the region itself would be welcomed, and that foreign players should not be present in the region because, in his view, they are only seeking the security of the Israeli regime. He added that officials of the Israeli regime are working to create division in the region.

"We still believe that our region should enjoy an indigenous peace, free from foreign interference," Araghchi said. "The wars of the past year represent a turning point in the region's history and have disrupted all existing structures. This is the reality, and nothing will be the same as it was before."

The ceremony was held to honor Kamal Kharrazi, who served as Iran's foreign minister and later headed the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations. According to the report, Kharrazi was killed in what was described as a terrorist attack by the US-Zionist enemy.

The event brought together Iranian diplomatic figures at the Foreign Ministry's research institute in Tehran. Araghchi's remarks focused on regional security arrangements and the role of outside powers, and he reiterated Iran's position that regional states should determine their own security without foreign involvement.

According to Mehr News, the foreign minister's comments came during the commemoration ceremony for the late Kharrazi and addressed both the regional security situation and the legacy of the former diplomat.
