SaveIRGC says it dismantled two armed groups in southeast Iran
The Public Relations office of the IRGC Ground Force's Quds Base said on Wednesday that two armed teams were identified in the Saravan and Iranshahr areas of southeastern Iran and that their members were arrested at dawn, according to the Mehr News Agency report.
The statement said the operation was part of a series of successive blows against armed groups in the southeastern region, carried out with intelligence oversight and preemptive action by the intelligence community. The Quds Base said the dismantled teams intended to carry out several operations in Iranshahr and Saravan, and that their plans were thwarted by the action of intelligence agencies.
The Quds Base expressed gratitude for what it described as the patience, forbearance and cooperation of the local population during the operation. It also issued a warning to what it called mercenaries of the United States and the Zionist regime, saying that the ultimate fate of serving as a mercenary for the enemy is destruction and annihilation.
The statement did not give the number of people arrested, their identities, or details of the alleged plans. No further information was provided about the locations of the arrests within the two areas.
Sistan and Baluchestan province, which includes Saravan and Iranshahr, has seen repeated security incidents in recent years, with Iranian authorities regularly announcing the arrest or killing of members of armed groups in the region. The province borders Pakistan and Afghanistan.
According to Mehr News, the announcement was issued by the Quds Base of the IRGC Ground Force, which is responsible for operations in the southeastern part of the country.
