IRGC Navy says it destroyed a US unmanned vessel at the Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said in a statement, identified as statement number 16, that it targeted a United States unmanned surface vessel at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. According to the statement, the vessel carried hull number 5838 and was on what the IRGC Navy described as an aggressive mission, which it said was foiled.

The IRGC Navy said the US, which it referred to as a terrorist and aggressor army, had dispatched unmanned vessels to the Strait of Hormuz in recent days out of fear of approaching and confronting Iranian forces. It did not provide further details on the timing of the incident or the type of weapon used.

The statement added that the Strait of Hormuz is blocked and under the IRGC Navy's smart control and intelligence dominance. It warned that any hostile presence in the strategic waterway will be targeted.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow channel connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the open ocean, is a key route for global oil shipments. The IRGC Navy has previously issued similar statements regarding its control over the waterway and its response to foreign military presence in the area.

According to Mehr News, the IRGC Navy's statement did not specify when the unmanned vessel was targeted or provide evidence of the incident. The report by Mehr News added that the IRGC Navy reiterated its position that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed to hostile forces and under its surveillance.
