IRGC confirms martyrdom of two Basijis in Mashhad attack

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Imam Reza base in Khorasan Razavi Province, northeast Iran, confirmed the martyrdom of two Basiji security forces in an attack on their checkpoint. The incident occurred in the Sarafrazan District of Mashhad, approximately 15 kilometers from the holy shrine of Imam Reza (a.s.). The martyred individuals were identified as Seyyed Sajjad Alavi and Mehdi Honarmand.

According to an IRGC statement, a passerby was also targeted in the same attack and was transferred to a hospital for medical treatment. The statement further emphasized that "the perpetrator or perpetrators of this act will be brought to justice and be punished in accordance with the law."

The attack took place in a district near the revered shrine, which holds significant religious importance for Shia Muslims worldwide. The IRGC has not yet provided details on the identity or motive of the attackers, but investigations are ongoing.
