Iran Conveys Terms for Resuming Talks to US via Qatari Mediator, Rezaei Says

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), stated in an interview with Al Jazeera that the United States President's assessments and calculations regarding Iran were flawed, and that the war was instigated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He said it is in Washington's interest to accept Iran's terms for ending the war, adding that Trump's threats will yield no results and that Iran is prepared for a decisive war.

Rezaei said Iran is aware of the US military's vulnerabilities and is better prepared than ever to counter its air strikes. He noted that following Washington's withdrawal from the agreement, Iran concluded it needed to alter its strategy toward Washington. He emphasized that Iran recently tested an anti-ship missile near a US aircraft carrier, adding that Iran is serious about its self-defense and that should an attack happen, it will target US bases and Washington's interests in the region with even greater force.

Regarding diplomatic efforts, Rezaei said consultations with Qatari and Pakistani mediators are ongoing, and Iran has conveyed its terms to them to resume talks. He stated that Iran remains in contact with the Qatari mediator, who re-sent Iran's conditions for halting the war to Washington, and that Iran is awaiting President Trump's response. The terms include ending the war on all fronts, unfreezing Iran's assets, and lifting the naval blockade.

On the nuclear issue, Rezaei said the actions taken by the US and Israel could justify Iran's withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). He added that Iran has not yet decided to withdraw from the NPT, and that this depends on Washington's behavior. He stated that Iran remains committed to the late Leader's fatwa banning the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction and has not altered its nuclear doctrine, though he said the future cannot be predicted.

Regarding the war between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, Rezaei said Iran wants the war to end and believes the Yemenis also desire an agreement with Saudi Arabia. According to Mehr News, Rezaei made these remarks in an interview with Al Jazeera, covering Iran's conditions for talks, its military readiness, nuclear policy, and regional conflicts.
