Iran Navy Commander Says Naval Power Protects Shipping Lanes on World Maritime Day

In a message marking World Maritime Day on Wednesday, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, commander of the Iranian Army Navy, emphasized that Iran's naval capabilities serve to protect national interests, ensure regional security, and safeguard communication and shipping lines. He highlighted the sea's critical role in global trade and the economy, describing seafarers and sailors as essential contributors to this vital sector.

Irani noted that the sea acts as a key conduit for connecting nations and facilitating global trade, with seafarers playing a pivotal role in maintaining these links across geographical boundaries. He stated that World Maritime Day provides an opportunity to honor individuals who, through their knowledge, skill, patience, and responsibility, drive the global shipping and commerce industry.

The naval commander asserted that Iran's maritime power is not intended to threaten other nations or create insecurity, but rather represents a responsible force dedicated to maintaining stability and security in maritime navigation and preventing adventurism in the region. He cited the 40-day war, also known as the Ramadan War, and attacks by what he described as the American-Zionist regime as examples of this stance.

According to Irani, Iran has demonstrated a link between power and responsibility, as well as deterrence and peace, through its defense capabilities and authoritative presence in surrounding waters. He added that the Iranian Navy, relying on indigenous knowledge, experience, and capabilities alongside other armed forces, bears the critical responsibility of protecting the country's maritime interests and ensuring the security of shipping lanes and maritime communication routes.
