Iran's IRGC Navy says it captured a second US-made Remus 600 underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said in a statement that it captured a US Remus 600 unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) operating in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the vessel as having been used for espionage. According to the statement, the interception was carried out through a coordinated operation involving intelligence oversight and electronic warfare.

The IRGC Navy said the Remus 600 is an advanced, intelligent underwater vehicle and that it has been handed over to the force's specialists for data recovery. The statement added that the Strait of Hormuz "is blocked" and that the force is continuously and decisively confronting what it called dangerous activities and the passage of vessels through unauthorized routes in the strategic waterway.

The announcement follows a similar incident on September 8, when the IRGC Navy said it intercepted and captured another advanced US unmanned underwater vehicle near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. That earlier vehicle was identified as a Dive-LD, an autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle developed by US defense technology company Anduril Industries and first delivered to the US Navy's Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Group 1 in 2025.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key maritime chokepoint through which a significant portion of global oil shipments passes. The IRGC Navy's statements did not provide further details on the circumstances of the latest capture or on the specific data it said was being recovered.

According to Mehr News, the IRGC Navy reiterated its position that it is confronting unauthorized activity in the waterway, and the report noted the earlier September 8 seizure of the Dive-LD vehicle.
