Iranian and Saudi Foreign Ministers Meet in New York, Discuss Bilateral Ties and Hormuz Shipping

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the meeting, Araghchi briefed bin Farhan on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached between Iran and Oman regarding a safe shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi emphasized Iran's determination to strengthen trust, particularly through security mechanisms based on regional interaction. He expressed hope that all influential regional parties would cooperate in this regard, citing what he described as the bitter experience of the past seven months and the exploitation of certain regional parties' territories and facilities by the United States and the Zionist regime to carry out military aggression against the Islamic Republic.

The two top diplomats exchanged views on bilateral relations between Tehran and Riyadh and underscored the importance of joint efforts to enhance ties in areas of mutual interest. The meeting took place on the margins of the UN General Assembly, where both officials are attending the annual gathering.

The discussions come amid ongoing regional tensions and efforts to improve relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which restored diplomatic ties in 2023 after years of estrangement. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil shipments, and security in the area has been a point of contention.

According to Mehr News, the meeting focused on regional cooperation and the importance of joint efforts to enhance bilateral ties in areas of mutual interest.
