Iranian parliamentary delegation arrives in New Delhi for 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum

An Iranian parliamentary delegation arrived in New Delhi on Sunday evening to take part in the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, according to Mehr News. The delegation includes Ahmad Naderi, a member of the Presiding Committee of the Parliament; Abbas Moghtadaei Khourasgani, head of the Iran-India Parliamentary Friendship Group; and Ali Haddadi, deputy head of the same group.

The delegation was received by Indian lawmakers Ghulam Ali Khatana and Yusuf Pathan, along with Mohammad Fathali, Iran's ambassador to India. The forum is being held under the theme "Fostering Parliaments for People-Centric Development." The Iranian delegation has adopted its own motto for the event: "Iranian Authority, a New International Order, and Countering Unilateralism."

The BRICS group currently comprises 11 countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina. Iran's participation in the parliamentary forum follows its entry into the bloc, which has expanded in recent years to include new members from the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

The parliamentary forum brings together legislators from member states to discuss cooperation on development, governance and multilateral issues. Iran's stated focus at this session centres on its position within what it describes as a new international order and on opposing unilateral approaches in international affairs.

Mehr News reported that the delegation's arrival was marked by a welcome from Indian parliamentarians and the Iranian ambassador. The report did not provide further details on the agenda of bilateral meetings planned on the sidelines of the forum.
