Iranian and Egyptian foreign ministers discuss regional de-escalation by phone

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, according to a statement carried by Mehr News Agency. The call was described by Egypt's Foreign Ministry as part of the regular consultations between the two ministers.

Nader Zaki, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the two top diplomats discussed the latest regional developments. He added that they also addressed concerns that these events could lead to a renewed escalation of tensions and military action in the region.

The readout did not specify any concrete agreements or outcomes from the call, and neither side announced new initiatives following the conversation. The contact comes amid heightened regional tensions that have drawn diplomatic attention from several governments in the Middle East and beyond.

Egypt has in recent months positioned itself as a participant in regional diplomatic efforts, maintaining channels of communication with multiple parties. Iran, for its part, has continued consultations with regional and international counterparts on developments affecting the area.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry characterized the exchange as routine, and no further details on the timing of future contacts between the two ministers were provided. According to Mehr News Agency, the call focused on regional developments and concerns over a possible renewed escalation and military action.
