Iranian diplomat Kanaani criticizes UK PM's remarks on nuclear issue and Strait of Hormuz

Iran's ambassador to Algeria, Nasser Kanaani, who is also a former foreign ministry spokesman, reacted on Saturday to remarks by the British prime minister regarding an agreement to dismantle Iran's nuclear capabilities and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on his X account, Kanaani quoted the British prime minister as saying, "We seek an agreement that eliminates Iran's nuclear capabilities and guarantees the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz." He described the remarks as baseless.

Kanaani added, "Yes, the old and new colonizers will settle for nothing less and they seek to strip nations off every instrument of power, so that, they may swallow them up completely!" The senior Iranian diplomat's comments underscore Iran's rejection of external demands regarding its nuclear program and the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments, and Iran has previously warned against foreign interference in the region. The British prime minister's remarks come amid ongoing international discussions over Iran's nuclear activities. Kanaani, in his role as envoy to Algeria, has been vocal in defending Iran's positions on such matters.

According to Mehr News, the exchange highlights continuing tensions between Iran and Western countries over the nuclear issue and maritime security in the Persian Gulf.
