SaveIran warns Bahrain at UN over use of its airspace in US operations against Iran
Ali Karimi Magham, a diplomat at the Islamic Republic of Iran's mission to the United Nations, spoke on Monday in the Third Committee of the international body in response to claims made by a Bahraini diplomat. According to the Iranian representative, Bahrain speaks of human rights while turning a blind eye to what lies behind the events.
Karimi Magham stated that Bahrain is not a victim and said the country placed its territory, bases and airspace at the disposal of the United States for an illegal war against Iran. He added that Bahrain, which placed its territory at the disposal of the United States for an illegal war against its neighbour, can no longer express surprise and astonishment at its consequences.
The Iranian diplomat stressed that Iran did not initiate the attack and was itself attacked, describing Tehran's response as the exercise of the inherent right of legitimate defence. He warned that if the territory of any country in the region is used once again to launch an attack against Iran, Iran will respond.
Addressing the Bahraini representative, Iran's representative said there are only two paths: either we build security in the region together, or we will endure insecurity together. He stressed that Bahrain previously chose the second path, and if it repeats the same choice once more, it should not expect a different result.
The remarks came during a session of the UN Third Committee, which deals with human rights and social affairs, in a direct exchange with Bahrain's delegation. The Iranian mission's statement did not specify what measures Tehran might take in response to any further use of regional territory or airspace. The report by Mehr News added that the exchange took place on Monday at the United Nations.
