Iran UN Envoy Slams US for Repeated Violations of Islamabad MoU

Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, on Monday sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council, accusing the United States of systematically violating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on June 17, 2026.

Iravani stated that almost immediately after the signing, the US not only failed to honor its commitments but actively undermined the MoU's foundations. He cited repeated military attacks against Iran's sovereignty, unlawful revocation of the license for Iranian oil sales, promotion of a parallel maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz, and continued support for Israeli aggression against Lebanon as fundamental breaches.

The letter detailed numerous violations from June 18 to July 13, 2026, including US military strikes on Iran, threats by US officials, Israeli regime attacks on Lebanon, and the imposition of new sanctions. Iravani noted that the US actions constitute a material breach of the MoU and a grave threat to international peace and security.

He called on the UN Security Council to take immediate, effective measures to compel the US to cease its unlawful acts and ensure accountability. The letter also highlighted the human cost of these violations, with casualties from US strikes and Israeli attacks.

According to Mehr News, the full text of the letter and a detailed account of violations were provided, emphasizing that Iran will resolutely safeguard its national interests and defend its sovereignty.
