Iran, Turkey foreign ministers meet in New York amid regional tensions

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in New York, where the two top diplomats discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments, according to Mehr News Agency (MNA).

During the meeting, Araghchi briefed Fidan on the latest regional developments and outlined Iran's positions. He stated that the current situation in the region, including insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, is a direct result of what he described as US and Israeli aggression that began on February 28 and has continued in various forms. The Iranian foreign minister thanked Turkey for its "good offices" aimed at strengthening regional peace and security.

Araghchi also addressed the status of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, saying that a US breach of commitments resulted in the agreement being violated less than three weeks after it was signed. He noted that the consequences of this breach have affected the entire region and the world. The Iranian diplomat emphasized the importance of all regional countries working to restore peace and security by strengthening mutual trust, particularly by refraining from following what he termed US military and economic interventionist and unlawful measures. He expressed Iran's readiness to cooperate toward this goal.

The meeting comes as Turkey and several regional countries have repeatedly stressed the importance of dialogue and negotiations to resolve tensions between Iran and the United States. The talks in New York reflect ongoing diplomatic efforts to address regional security concerns through bilateral and multilateral channels.
