Iran and Philippines foreign ministers meet on UNGA sidelines in New York

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Philippine Foreign Minister Maria Theresa P. Lazaro in New York on Saturday evening, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Araghchi had traveled to New York to attend the UNGA session, where the two top diplomats held talks.

During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister outlined the latest situation in the region and Iran's efforts to restore peace and security. The discussions took place against the backdrop of regional tensions that have drawn international attention in recent months.

Lazaro, who serves as Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, expressed hope that the two countries would witness the swiftest possible end to insecurity and the return of lasting peace and stability to the region. Her remarks reflected Manila's interest in seeing a de-escalation of regional tensions.

The two sides also exchanged views on expanding bilateral relations between Tehran and Manila in various areas of mutual interest. The meeting was held on the margins of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations, which provides an opportunity for bilateral consultations among participating delegations.

According to Mehr News, the meeting between Araghchi and Lazaro was part of a series of diplomatic engagements conducted by the Iranian foreign minister during his stay in New York for the UN General Assembly session.
