Iran suspends commitments under Islamabad MoU over US actions

Iran has suspended the implementation of all its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), citing US aggression and breach of obligations. The announcement was made by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, in an interview with Iran's national television on Saturday.

Gharibabadi responded to a question about recent US contact regarding negotiations, stating that Iran had already been engaged in talks. However, he accused Washington of undermining the process by carrying out aggressive actions that violate its commitments under the MoU. He stressed that the United States had effectively abandoned all of its obligations under the memorandum, prompting Iran to suspend its own commitments. "None of those commitments are currently being implemented," he said.

The deputy foreign minister added that Iran's immediate focus is the unified and resolute defense of the country. He argued that the United States has already received a response to its actions and that such measures would not achieve their intended objectives. "If the United States acts wisely, it should pursue alternatives to war," he said.

Gharibabadi concluded by stating that Iran's current strategy is to defend the country decisively and respond firmly to any acts of aggression. The Islamabad MoU, signed in 2015, was a framework for cooperation between Iran and the United States on various issues. According to the report by Mehr News, the suspension of commitments marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two countries.
