Iran's IRGC seizes weapons shipment in West Azarbaijan

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force announced on Sunday that its intelligence units have discovered and seized a shipment of weapons in the border area of Oshnavieh County, West Azarbaijan Province.

According to a statement by the Public Relations of the Hamzah Sayyid al-Shuhada Base of the IRGC Ground Force, the operation was carried out by the "Unknown Soldiers of the Imam Zaman (peace be upon him)" within the IRGC Intelligence Organization of West Azarbaijan Province. The statement said that the shipment contained "anti-security equipment" and was intercepted at the border.

The seized items included 6 AK-47 rifles, 28 magazines, 6 magazine chest rigs, 456 external cartridges, 77 penetrating cartridges, and 246 regular cartridges. The statement alleged that "separatist terrorist groups," acting in coordination with and under the guidance of the intelligence services of "global arrogance and the Zionist regime," intended to transport these weapons to the central regions of the country for subversive activities.

The IRGC base warned that it will continue its intelligence monitoring of terrorist groups and will deal severely with any anti-security plot, adding that it is ready to give a "regretful response" to any such actions.

According to Mehr News Agency, the statement did not specify whether any arrests were made in connection with the seizure. The region of West Azarbaijan has been the site of occasional clashes between Iranian security forces and Kurdish separatist groups, who have been active in the area near the border with Iraq and Turkey.
