In a letter to UN Secretary General António Guterres and President of the UN Security Council Zenon Ngay Mukongo on July 14, 2026, Iran's Ambassador to the UN, Saeed Iravani, dismissed US accusations regarding Iran's military activities in Yemen as baseless and politically motivated. He challenged Washington's claims and argued that the US lacked legal and moral standing to level accusations against Iran.
Iravani stated that the US allegations of Iran transferring weapons to Yemen in violation of Security Council resolutions are false and unsupported by credible evidence. He accused the US of using the Security Council platform to disseminate disinformation and deflect attention from its own unlawful conduct. The letter highlighted that the US bears primary responsibility for undermining peace in Yemen through acts of aggression, which have derailed the April 2022 ceasefire agreement and stalled the UN-facilitated political process.
Regarding the claim that Ansarallah acts on behalf of Iran, Iravani asserted that the Sana'a authorities make decisions independently and represent a substantial segment of the Yemeni people. He reaffirmed Iran's support for a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political process under UN auspices, and its commitment to Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ambassador also rejected US assertions of compliance with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), citing 42 documented instances of US violations of the agreement. He accused the US of systematically undermining the MoU since its signing, jeopardizing regional stability.
Iravani further described the US as the aggressor, noting two unprovoked wars of aggression against Iran together with the Israeli regime, which constitute grave violations of the UN Charter and international law. He condemned US attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure as war crimes and crimes against humanity, and accused the US of disrupting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz through interference in Iran's arrangements.
According to Mehr News, the letter concluded that the US has no legal, political, or moral standing to accuse Iran or any other member state, and requested the letter be circulated as an official Security Council document.
