Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a telephone conversation with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Tuesday, expressed Iran's readiness for a "dignified framework" to end the ongoing war in the region. The president's media office released a photo post detailing the conversation, stating that Pezeshkian emphasized Iran's consistent honesty and commitment to dialogue. He added, "Now is the time for the other side to demonstrate its will and, in both action and word, adhere to its international obligations."
Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Qatar's continuous and constructive support and efforts for peace, particularly acknowledging the personal role of the Emir. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani reaffirmed Doha's consistent position, stating that the Qatari government will spare no effort in establishing peace, security, and regional stability, and will continue its constructive mediating role.
The conversation comes amid heightened tensions since the United States and Israel launched a war of aggression against Iran on February 28, with airstrikes that assassinated senior Iranian officials and commanders, including the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces conducted 100 waves of successful retaliatory strikes against sensitive and strategic American and Israeli targets throughout the region.
On April 8, forty days into the war, an Islamabad-brokered ceasefire between Tehran and Washington went into effect. The two sides have been holding intermittent talks to end the war permanently. According to Mehr News, the Iranian president's remarks underscore Tehran's willingness to pursue a diplomatic resolution while calling on the other side to demonstrate commitment.
