Iran and Oman have agreed to continue political and technical talks to ensure safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood AlBusaidi in Muscat. The meeting took place "in light of the developments and repercussions arising from recent events," according to the Oman News Agency. The two sides agreed to continue discussions at both the technical and political levels in order to reach the requisite understandings in accordance with international law. The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic waterway through which about a fifth of the world's oil passes. Iran and Oman share maritime borders in the strait and have historically cooperated on security issues. The talks aim to address recent tensions and ensure the safe passage of vessels. According to Mehr News, the foreign ministers emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the region.
