Hassan Ghashghavi, the spokesman for Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated in an interview on Friday that a deal between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz is in its final stages. He noted that while a consensus on the general outline of the agreement has largely been reached, final approval must still be declared at higher official levels.
"We are waiting for both the final agreement and a joint statement that will clarify many of the general guidelines," Ghashghavi said. The senior lawmaker added that the public must wait for the definitive outcome, noting, "Apart from the general discussion I mentioned, final news and details will hopefully be published shortly."
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway through which a significant portion of the world's oil supplies pass. Iran has previously threatened to close the strait in response to sanctions or threats, making any agreement with Oman potentially significant for regional stability and global energy security.
According to Mehr News Agency, Ghashghavi's remarks indicate that the agreement is close to completion, but the exact details and timeline remain undisclosed. The joint statement, once issued, is expected to provide clarity on the scope and implementation of the deal.
