Iran and Oman Coordinate on Strait of Hormuz Maritime Traffic

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Sunday that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's visit to Oman aimed to coordinate between the two littoral states of the Strait of Hormuz on future arrangements for maritime traffic management. The foreign ministers discussed coordination on navigation and shipping management in the strategic waterway, with legal and technical delegations from both countries in attendance.

According to Baghaei, the talks focused on ensuring the security and safety of navigation while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal states, applicable international law, and the provisions of Point 5 of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. Iran emphasized that future arrangements must be developed through consultations between the two littoral states, considering recent developments, particularly the imposed war by the US-Zionist regime and its security consequences for navigation in the strait.

Baghaei added that Iran and Oman agreed to continue discussions at both political and technical-legal levels to reach a common understanding on ensuring shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting underscores the importance of bilateral cooperation in maintaining stability in one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints.

According to Mehr News, the talks reflect ongoing diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Muscat to address regional security challenges and ensure the free flow of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
