Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has stated that there is no plan for direct talks with the United States this week, dismissing media reports that technical negotiations were scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar.
In a statement posted on his Telegram channel, Gharibabadi said: "Although consultations with Qatar – including on following up on the implementation of the other party’s commitments – are ongoing as usual, the news from some media outlets that technical talks by the working groups will be held in Doha cannot be confirmed."
He added: "The first round of technical talks within the framework of the designated working groups will be held when conditions are met, and after an agreement is reached on the date and location. Consultations in this regard are continuing through intermediary countries."
Earlier, several media outlets, including Al Jazeera, had reported that US-Iran talks were expected to take place in the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday. However, Gharibabadi's remarks clarify that no such meeting has been finalized.
The comments come amid ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, with Qatar and other countries serving as intermediaries. The talks are focused on issues including the implementation of commitments related to the nuclear deal and other bilateral concerns.
According to Mehr News Agency, Gharibabadi's statement underscores that while consultations continue, no date or location has been agreed upon for the next round of technical discussions.
