Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Sunday that Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in gasoline production and no longer requires imports of the fuel. Speaking at a meeting of the Government Information Council, he noted that the country previously had to spend $12 billion annually on gasoline imports.
The president attributed this achievement to the administration's focus on saving and consumption management amid high energy consumption and fuel supply challenges under an economic blockade. He explained that the government placed these measures on its agenda to prevent further problems in the energy and fuel sectors, resulting in significant savings with the cooperation of the nation.
Pezeshkian stressed that all revenues from fuel price adjustments, savings, and consumption management will be returned to the people. He called for utilizing media capacity to engage the public on important issues such as energy consumption management, gasoline saving, and strengthening national unity and social cohesion.
He also urged managers in administrative bodies and organizations to work collaboratively to encourage government employees to participate in energy-saving initiatives. These include plans like car-free Tuesdays, reduced use of personal cars, increased productivity, and the use of teleworking capacity to control excessive energy and fuel consumption.
According to Mehr News Agency (MNA), the president's remarks highlight the administration's efforts to address energy challenges and promote self-sufficiency despite ongoing economic pressures.
