Iran has officially joined the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), according to Iran's Ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli. The announcement came after a signing ceremony held on Friday, during which the ambassador met with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Liu Bin.
During the meeting, Rahmani-Fazli stated that Iran is ready to actively participate in the scientific, research, and applied development of artificial intelligence, as well as in the creation of international mechanisms to ensure fair and equitable access to this technology. He emphasized that Iran's membership in WAICO reflects its commitment to constructive engagement in new technologies and to using AI capabilities for sustainable development.
WAICO was established on July 16, 2026, on the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, following an initiative taken by China. The organization aims to foster international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
According to Mehr News Agency, the ambassador's remarks highlight Iran's interest in expanding its role in global technological collaborations. The report added that Iran's participation in WAICO is expected to open new avenues for cooperation in AI research and development.
