A high-ranking Indonesian delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Sugiono, arrived in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad early on Friday to pay tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. The delegation includes the speaker of Indonesia's parliament, senior religious scholars, and representatives of Islamic organizations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Sugiono held a meeting in Mashhad for mutual talks, focusing on bilateral relations and regional cooperation. The discussions took place as the Indonesian delegation is scheduled to participate in an official ceremony honoring the memory of the martyred leader.
The body of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei was laid to rest next to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (a.s.) in Mashhad on July 9, following massive farewell and funeral processions held in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, and Karbala. The US and Israel waged a joint unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on February 28, 2026, which led to the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, his family members, high-ranking military commanders, and civilians.
According to Mehr News Agency, the Indonesian delegation's visit underscores the strong ties between the two Muslim-majority nations and their shared commitment to honoring the legacy of the late leader.
