Iranian MP Says Strait of Hormuz Among Tools to Counter US Aviation Sanctions

Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated in an interview with Mehr News Agency on Tuesday that Iran possesses numerous tools to respond to aviation-related sanctions imposed by the United States and countries aligning with it. He said these capabilities could be applied at an appropriate time with prudence, rationality, and intelligence.

Azizi explained that Iran's capacities span economic, border, and political spheres as well as the regional level. He described them as extensive and widespread, available for use if needed. As an example, he said that if Iran were to decide today to block the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz against the export of certain goods and oil by countries that have complied with the air embargo against Iran, this would constitute one of its available tools and is considered a very important capability.

The senior lawmaker also emphasized the importance of Iran's international legal and diplomatic capacities to neutralize sanctions targeting the country's aviation sector. He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must follow up the issue with special sensitivity and prioritize it on its agenda.

Azizi's remarks came in reaction to the aviation-related sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran. He did not specify which countries he was referring to as having complied with the air embargo. The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic waterway through which a significant portion of global oil exports passes.

According to Mehr News Agency, Azizi made these comments during an interview on Tuesday, underscoring Iran's view that it retains multiple options to counter external pressure.
