President Masoud Pezeshkian received a copy of the credentials of Denmark's newly appointed ambassador to Tehran, Christian Atzen, on Tuesday, in a ceremony marking the formal start of the diplomat's mission in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the meeting, Pezeshkian said the Iranian people have consistently been a peace-loving nation throughout history, pursuing peace, tranquility, constructive interaction and healthy relations with other countries. He added that Denmark is among the nations with which Iran seeks to expand relations.
The president said that the perception of Iran that has developed among some European countries is neither accurate nor aligned with the realities of the country. He emphasized the Islamic Republic's readiness to expand bilateral interactions and cooperation, saying, "We welcome any form of cooperation, exchange of experience, and partnership with various countries, including Denmark, in economic, scientific, and cultural fields, and we believe that expanding engagement in these areas can pave the way for deepening and strengthening relations between the two nations."
For his part, the newly appointed Danish ambassador expressed satisfaction at beginning his diplomatic mission in Iran. "I am pleased to be in Iran and have been impressed by the beautiful civilization and the unique history and culture of the Iranian people," Atzen said. He stressed his responsibility to convey the realities of Iran to his own country, stating, "I will strive to provide an accurate, realistic, and fair portrayal of Iran. I am committed to this and will fulfill this duty with complete sincerity."
Referring to his country's approach to international relations, the ambassador said Denmark is committed to multilateralism and the rule of law, and that his mission will also focus on these principles. The exchange took place as part of the standard diplomatic procedure in which a new ambassador presents a copy of credentials before formally assuming the post. According to Mehr News, the meeting covered prospects for bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Copenhagen across several fields.
