Iran FM Warns US Against New Miscalculation in Persian Gulf

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a warning on Tuesday evening regarding the presence of foreign forces in the Persian Gulf, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on his X account, Araghchi stated, "Foreign forces in proximity to our territory are at constant risk on account of their own human errors, plain accidents, or potentially being caught in crossfire." He added, "To reduce risk, best solution is for them to leave. We prefer language of diplomacy but speak other languages too."

Araghchi's remarks came in response to a claim by U.S. President Donald Trump, who posted on Truth Social that an advanced Apache helicopter conducting a patrol mission over the Strait of Hormuz had been targeted by Iranian forces. The Iranian Foreign Minister did not directly address Trump's allegation but instead emphasized the inherent dangers of foreign military presence in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway through which about 20% of the world's oil passes. Tensions between Iran and the United States have been high in recent years, with both sides engaging in military posturing and occasional confrontations. Iran has consistently called for the withdrawal of foreign forces from the Persian Gulf, arguing that their presence destabilizes the region.

According to Mehr News Agency, Araghchi's statement underscores Iran's position that diplomatic solutions are preferred but that the country is prepared to respond to any threats. The report by Mehr News added that the Iranian Foreign Minister's comments serve as a warning against any new miscalculations by the United States in the Persian Gulf.
