Iran Foreign Ministry condemns UK policies, announces reciprocal measures

Iran's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday saying that British movements and policies against Iran contradict the principles of international law and the UN Charter, particularly the principle of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran will take the necessary measures to safeguard its national security and interests.

The statement said the Foreign Ministry, acting under a bylaw approved by the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), had adopted reciprocal measures in response to what it described as hostile actions by the British government over the past year. Among the cited actions was the UK's participation in what Tehran called the US and Israeli war of aggression against Iran by providing bases and military-logistical facilities to the United States.

The ministry also pointed to the British government's decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) under the Governmental Threats Law, dated July 13, 2026. The statement said the reciprocal measures were taken in accordance with the principles of international law and within the framework of reciprocal action, and that responsibility for the consequences would rest with the British government.

The statement did not specify the nature of the measures adopted. It framed the response as a legal step grounded in the principle of reciprocity rather than an escalation, and reiterated that Iran would act to protect its national security and interests.

According to Mehr News, the announcement follows a year of tensions between Tehran and London, including the UK's role in US and Israeli military operations and its decision on the IRGC designation.
