Iran FM Araghchi criticises European double standards in talks with Dutch counterpart

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with the Dutch foreign minister on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session, according to Mehr News Agency (MNA). The two sides discussed bilateral relations between Iran and the Netherlands as well as regional and international issues.

During the meeting, Araghchi strongly criticised what he described as European double standards towards developments in the region, particularly citing silence and appeasement towards actions he attributed to the United States and Israel against Iran. "European countries cannot claim to support the rule of law and human rights on the one hand, while on the other remaining indifferent to, and even supporting, blatant U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran," Araghchi said.

Araghchi recalled Iran's approach of using diplomacy to remove what he called U.S. pretexts on the nuclear issue. He described repeated U.S. agreement violations and warmongering as the main cause of current insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He stressed that "the only way to restore peace and stability in the region is to halt America's illegal and aggressive actions and respect Iran's rights and national interests."

The Dutch foreign minister, for his part, emphasised the importance of using diplomacy and outlined his country's views on current regional developments and interaction between Iran and Europe. The meeting took place amid ongoing regional tensions and continued diplomatic engagement at the UN General Assembly.

According to Mehr News, the discussions reflect Iran's continued diplomatic outreach at the international level while pressing its position on regional security and nuclear issues.
