Iran's Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the United States for launching airstrikes against Iranian coastal surveillance facilities in the southern coastal areas, labeling the attacks a clear violation of international law and a bilateral ceasefire agreement.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry said the strikes violated Article 2, paragraph 4, of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. It also said the attacks breached paragraph 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on ending the imposed war, signed on June 18, 2026.
The statement further accused the "apartheid Zionist regime" of coordinating with the United States to attack Lebanon, which it said violated Article 1 of the same MoU. Iran emphasized its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and declared that it would defend its sovereignty, security, and national interests with all its might.
According to the ministry, the Iranian Armed Forces carried out defensive strikes against targets linked to the American aggressors. It warned that the responsibility for the consequences of the situation lies with the "aggressor and law-breaking American regime" and any parties complicit in the acts of aggression.
The ministry also called on all countries on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf to adhere to the principle of good neighborliness and to prevent the use of their territory and facilities by aggressive parties against Iran. It urged the UN Secretary-General, the UN Security Council, and other international institutions to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and not remain indifferent to the US violations.
According to Mehr News, the statement concluded by reiterating Iran's commitment to regional and international peace and security while holding the US accountable for the escalation.
