Iran's IRGC Commander Says US Suffered Heavy Blow in 17-Day Conflict

In a recent interview with local Iranian media published on Monday, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a military advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), discussed the recent conflict between Iran and the United States. He described the conflict as the "Third War" or the "17-Day War of Muharram," during which Iran dealt severe blows to America.

Rezaei stated that the war was "weird" for the world but "predictable" for Iran. He recalled that he had predicted on national TV that US President Donald Trump would tear up the memorandum of understanding (MoU) and attack. He noted that except for the first four or five days, the US violated the agreement with Iran.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution had said that the proud nation of Iran would wait for the fulfillment of the terms of the agreement, but Trump, while French President Macron was sitting with him, signed the MoU in a show ceremony, yet he did not fulfill his obligations.

Rezaei, who led the IRGC during the eight-year war against the Saddam Baathist regime, explained that the Americans tried to establish new arrangements and set up a corridor in the south of the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring Iran's warnings. In response, Iran targeted two or three ships to demand their return to compliance with the understanding.

The military advisor further noted that the US targeted south Iran in violation of the MoU, in which it had accepted Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. He pointed to US bases in Iraqi Kurdistan and Kuwait as examples of Iran's successful retaliatory strikes, saying that as a result of Iran's attacks, the US had to evacuate those two bases.

According to Mehr News Agency, Rezaei's remarks highlight Iran's perspective on the recent tensions and its military responses. The interview underscores the ongoing friction between Iran and the United States over regional security and the implementation of agreements.
