Kermanshah Governor Mohammad-Hossein Habibi met with Mohammad-Kazem Ale-Sadegh, the Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad, on Tuesday to discuss key economic, trade, and Arbaeen-related demands of Kermanshah Province. During the meeting, Habibi emphasized the urgent need to accelerate the implementation of the Khosravi railway project to Baghdad.
The governor noted that approximately 40 percent of Iran's exports to Iraq transit through the Kermanshah borders. The Kermanshah-Khosravi railway project is currently underway, which will facilitate trade and the movement of Arbaeen pilgrims once it connects to Baghdad. He added that during the previous Arbaeen, more than one million pilgrims crossed at the Khosravi border.
Habibi stated that activating this railway line and preparing the Sumar border are among the main priorities for improving pilgrim transit. The Iranian Ambassador to Iraq has promised to follow up on these issues, according to the governor.
According to Mehr News Agency, the meeting underscores Iran's efforts to enhance cross-border infrastructure with Iraq, particularly for the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage, which draws millions of Shia Muslims to Karbala.
