Iran Army says it is upgrading missile range and speed after recent war

Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia, a spokesman for the Iranian Army, said in an interview on Sunday that the force has decided to improve the range of its missiles and has already taken steps in that direction. He said the decision followed the recent war involving the United States and Israel.

Akraminia said the missiles used during the conflict performed well and proved effective. He specifically cited Ground Force missiles that targeted enemy bases in Kuwait and Navy sea-launched cruise missiles that struck enemy vessels. He added, however, that the Army concluded it needs to improve the speed and range of these missiles because the enemy is now operating farther from Iran's shores, at distances of up to 1,000 kilometers. He said the upgrades would apply to all of the Army's missiles, according to Press TV.

The spokesman also said significant progress has been made in improving the speed and precision of Iranian missiles, and that future generations of these weapons would benefit even more from such capabilities.

According to the report, the United States and Israel launched what it described as their second war of aggression against Iran on February 28. The report said they assassinated the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with senior military commanders. Forty days later, on April 8, Washington and Tel Aviv were forced to accept a ceasefire amid resistance, retaliatory operations, and control over the Strait of Hormuz, the report said.

In July, the report added, the United States conducted waves of deadly air raids on Iran and imposed a naval blockade of the country in violation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic, signed on June 17 to end the war.

Akraminia's remarks come as tensions remain high between Iran and the United States. The report described the US as continuing acts of mischief in the region and rejecting diplomacy. The Army spokesman's comments were carried in an interview on Sunday and reported by Mehr News, citing Press TV.
