The Iranian Army's public relations office announced that its forces carried out strikes on the al-Azraq base in Jordan, targeting US radar systems and fuel tanks. The operation, code-named "Operation Thunderbolt," was conducted in response to what the Army described as "savage attacks" by the "child-killing enemy" on a barracks in Bampur, Iranshahr, which resulted in the deaths of seven Iranian soldiers earlier this week.
The al-Azraq base was characterized by the Army as a key strategic and command center for US forces in West Asia, as well as a site hosting anti-missile defense systems. The Army condemned the American strike on the troop accommodation in Bampur, calling it an act born of the enemy's "anti-human nature" and stated that "these crimes will never be erased from the pages of history."
In a statement, the Army emphasized its commitment to defending Iran's security and avenging the blood of the martyrs. "The sons of the nation in the Army are devoted to the people and defenders of Iran's security, and will not retreat one iota from the honourable duty of defending the nation and the Islamic homeland and avenging the blood of the dear martyrs," the statement said.
The incident marks a significant escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States, with direct military action on Jordanian soil. According to Mehr News Agency, the report added that the strikes were a direct response to the earlier attack on the Iranian barracks.
