Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged dialogue and diplomacy to resolve tensions, including the ongoing US-Iran tensions, during his address at the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Modi stated, "India has consistently maintained that the solution to all tensions and conflicts cannot be found on the battlefield, but only through dialogue and diplomacy." He emphasized that in today's interconnected world, the scope of security has become broader, and the crisis in the Middle East has demonstrated that a conflict in one region does not remain confined to that region alone.
The Indian leader warned that the impact of such conflicts is felt globally, affecting energy security, maritime trade, and supply chains. He noted that the countries of the Global South bear the greatest burden of these consequences.
Addressing the SCO, Modi said, "At a time when the world is going through uncertainty and instability, we must transform our shared geography into shared opportunities and bring positive changes to the lives of our people through our collective efforts."
Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained high since the war began with strikes on Iran in late February. According to the report by Mehr News, citing Anadolu Agency (AA), Modi's remarks come amid these heightened tensions, reflecting India's consistent stance on resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
