Iran denies drone attack on Kuwait airport, calls footage fabricated

An informed Iranian military official has denied reports that an Iranian drone struck Kuwait International Airport, describing the footage circulated by foreign media as a fabricated staging and part of a psychological warfare campaign. The official stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force launched its drones at U.S. targets in Kuwait during the middle of the night, with impacts also occurring overnight. In contrast, the footage broadcast by foreign media clearly shows broad daylight, indicating the footage is not genuine.

The official further specified that the intended U.S. military targets for the IRGC drones were located more than 40 kilometers away from the civilian Kuwait airport, adding that a targeting error of that magnitude is impossible. Providing further clarification, Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi, the IRGC spokesperson and deputy of public relations, stated that internal investigations confirm the IRGC Aerospace Force did not fire any projectiles toward the civilian facility. Mohebi asserted that the destruction at the Kuwait airport’s passenger terminal was instead caused by a failure of U.S. Patriot missile defense systems.

The denial comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with Iran having launched drone and missile attacks against U.S. targets in the region. The IRGC has emphasized its precision and capability, rejecting any suggestion of accidental strikes on civilian infrastructure. According to Mehr News, the Iranian military official characterized the reports as a false-flag operation aimed at discrediting Iran.
