IAEA Board Adopts Resolution on Iran Proposed by US and European Countries

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors recently adopted a resolution concerning Iran, proposed by the United States and the three European countries—France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. The resolution effectively refers Iran's nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council, a move that has drawn strong opposition from China and Russia.

According to Mehr News, the resolution was seen as a follow-up by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to finalize the case being built against Iran. The report suggested that through these measures, Grossi seeks greater support from Western nations for a potential bid for the UN Secretary-General position. It described the action as the Agency's final gambit to transfer Iran's file to the Security Council, noting that Iran has previously weathered UN Security Council resolutions and managed the resulting sanctions.

The resolution offered nothing new, the report stated, and has become a routine affair for various countries, Board members, and Iran alike. China and Russia's strong opposition to the Agency's anti-Iran policies was clearly evident, signaling a shift in the landscape. Both countries are now staunch opponents of the Agency's anti-Iran stance and will likely respond negatively to any measures the US and Western nations might attempt to pursue against Iran within the Security Council.

The report further claimed that the move has tarnished Grossi's track record, alleging that through various preambles and statements contrary to the facts regarding Iran's nuclear program, he provided the US and Israel with a pretext to target Iran with aggression—an act that occurred just one day after the Board of Governors issued its resolution. It added that although they faced a response they would come to regret, Grossi's conduct will not be erased from the collective memory of the Iranian people.

Iran will continue its nuclear program undeterred by such resolutions and will persist in utilizing this energy for peaceful purposes, the report said. It argued that the Board of Governors has effectively become an ineffectual body, issuing resolutions tailored to the dictates of the US and a few European nations. Consequently, these resolutions will certainly not deter Iran from pursuing its goals for the country's technical and scientific advancement, the report concluded.
