Iran's Parliament Speaker: Strait of Hormuz to Be Managed by Iran Under Iranian Arrangements

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz will be administered by Iran under Iranian arrangements, emphasizing that international laws will be observed. He made the remarks while returning from Switzerland, where he participated in quadrilateral talks.

Ghalibaf stressed the need to link military and diplomatic achievements, noting that negotiation is a method of struggle and comes in continuation of the struggle. He said that in the military field, conditions are laid for diplomacy to pursue the same objectives. The trip to Switzerland was in line with the goals of the military front, he added.

According to Ghalibaf, forcing US President Donald Trump to change his position regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz was the result of a combination of Iran's soft and hard power. He stated that after signing the understanding, Trump announced the Strait would be free from that night, while according to Article 4 of the understanding, it should have been opened within 30 days and under Iran's terms. Ghalibaf said this demonstrated the power of the Islamic Republic.

The parliament speaker also said that the release of frozen funds and the lifting of oil sanctions were finalized during the Swiss trip. He added that both Iran and the US must guarantee the territorial integrity of Lebanon, and that without the negotiations, more blood would have been shed from Lebanese Muslims and Shiites.

Ghalibaf reiterated that the management of the Strait of Hormuz will never return to the pre-war status. He mentioned that a center and a communication line have been established to solve any problems within a 30-day period. He clarified that this line is not for gaining permission from Iran, as permission has its own procedures, but rather for solving issues with ships or possible incidents. According to Mehr News Agency, Ghalibaf expressed hope that the regional economy will flourish under these arrangements.
