SaveIran Army: Respecting Iran's Rights Key to Reopening Hormuz
Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia, the spokesman for the Iranian Army, stated on Monday that respecting Iran's rights and adherence to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are the only conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at a public gathering in Tehran, he warned that Tehran will not accept any arrangements imposed through pressure or military threats.
The Iranian Armed Forces, he said, would continue defending the country's interests and would not back down from safeguarding Iran's rights in the strategic waterway. Akraminia emphasized that US acceptance of the arrangements outlined in the Iran-US memorandum of understanding is essential. He noted that Washington had later sought to establish an alternative route in the Strait of Hormuz despite previously accepting Iran's proposed arrangements.
The Army spokesman warned that any action in the Strait of Hormuz outside the agreed framework would face a firm response from Iran. He stressed that the waterway would not be reopened through US aggression or pressure. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments, and Iran has previously threatened to close it in response to sanctions or military threats.
According to Mehr News Agency, Akraminia's remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States over maritime security and nuclear negotiations. The Islamabad MoU, signed in 2016, outlines principles for bilateral cooperation between Iran and the US, but its implementation has been contentious.
