Velayati: Hezbollah is the pillar of Lebanon's independence

In a post on one of his social media accounts on Sunday, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior Iranian official and former foreign minister, described Hezbollah as "the pillar of Lebanon's independence." Velayati, who currently serves as an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, emphasized the importance of political sovereignty in his remarks. He stated, "After years of diplomatic experience, I would like to say: freedom without political independence is a golden cage." This statement underscores Iran's longstanding support for Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia militant group and political party, which has been a key player in Lebanon's politics and military landscape. Hezbollah has been involved in conflicts with Israel and has been a major force in the region, often backed by Iran.
