Hamas confirms assassination of its military chief in Gaza

The Palestinian resistance group Hamas confirmed on Wednesday the assassination of its military chief, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza. According to Press TV, the commander, identified as a key figure within the al-Qassam Brigades, was killed along with his wife and two sons when the Israeli military carried out a large airstrike on Tuesday.

Witnesses reported that at least three powerful explosions struck Gaza City's Rimal neighborhood as residents were preparing for the Eid al-Adha holiday. Medical staff at al-Shifa Hospital stated that at least six people were killed and 20 others wounded in the strikes. Multiple reports indicated that the attack caused extensive destruction in the densely populated neighborhood.

The slain commander had been appointed as the head of Hamas's al-Qassam Brigades only days earlier, following the assassination of his predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, in an Israeli strike on the same neighborhood on May 15.

Hamas has repeatedly stated that the Israeli regime is mistaken if it believes that targeting resistance leaders will force the movement to surrender or abandon its armed struggle. The group has stressed that "the policy of assassinations will not end the Palestinian resistance." According to Mehr News, the report by Press TV added these details.
