US Ambassador Says Israel Seeks Security Pact With Saudi Arabia

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said in remarks published on Saturday that Israel would like to have a security agreement with Saudi Arabia and would welcome the kingdom joining the Abraham Accords. He attributed the lack of progress to hesitation on the Saudi side, saying, "The Israelis would love to have a security agreement with the Saudis. Would love for the Saudis to be part of the Abraham Accords. Certainly not because of any hesitancy in Israel." He added, "The hesitancy is in the KSA. We have to hope that there will be a warming of ideas."

Huckabee also stated that there is already a good military-to-military relationship and a good intelligence-to-intelligence relationship between the two countries, and that "everyone would benefit" from further cooperation. He did not provide specific details about the nature or scope of these ties.

The ambassador's comments come amid ongoing discussions about potential normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel, which have been a focus of US diplomacy in the region. The Abraham Accords, signed in 2020, established diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab states, but Saudi Arabia has not joined.
