The people of Tehran commemorated Eid al-Ghadir alongside their fellow Iranians on Thursday, June 4, 2025. The occasion, which marks the anniversary of Prophet Muhammad's (s) declaration at Ghadir Khumm appointing Imam Ali (a.s.) as his successor, is one of the most significant festivals in the Shia calendar.
In Tehran, celebrations included a 10-kilometer-long festive party, with participants gathering in streets and public squares. The event featured religious speeches, poetry recitals, and communal meals. Many attendees carried banners and flags bearing the names of the Prophet Muhammad (s) and Imam Ali (a.s.).
The festivities were part of nationwide observances across Iran, where Eid al-Ghadir is a public holiday. Similar events were reported in other major cities, including Qom, Mashhad, and Isfahan, with millions of people taking part in processions and religious ceremonies.
Eid al-Ghadir is celebrated annually on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the event of Ghadir Khumm, where the Prophet Muhammad (s) is believed to have delivered a sermon declaring Imam Ali (a.s.) as the master of believers. The day is marked by prayers, charity, and expressions of joy among Shia Muslims worldwide.
According to Mehr News Agency, the Tehran municipality organized the main celebration along a designated route, with volunteers distributing food and beverages to participants. Security measures were in place to ensure the safety of the large crowds. The report added that similar gatherings took place in other provinces, reflecting the widespread devotion to this occasion.
