Gaza Health Ministry warns hospital generators face collapse over fuel shortage

The Gaza Health Ministry warned that the remaining electric generators in hospitals across the Gaza Strip are at risk of immediate mechanical breakdown and failure, according to a statement reported by Al Jazeera and carried by Mehr News. The ministry said the generators are already operating under complex technical and engineering conditions.

The ministry stated that the monthly requirement of oil to keep hospital generators functioning exceeds 2,500 litres (660 gallons). It warned that a total shutdown would cause a disruption in power supply to numerous vital life-saving departments.

According to the statement, stopgap solutions providing limited quantities of oil do not extend the operational lifespan of these generators. The ministry said the generators' high oil consumption is exacerbated by long hours of continuous operation and an urgent need for maintenance.

The ministry called on the international community to uphold its humanitarian responsibilities and intervene immediately to ensure the delivery of necessary oil and spare parts. The warning comes amid the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, which is referred to in the publisher's topics as the Al-Aqsa Storm Operation.

According to Mehr News, the ministry's statement was reported by Al Jazeera.
