Former Trump allies criticize 'senseless war' on Iran

Former allies of US President Donald Trump have strongly criticized the Trump administration's approach to Iran, labeling it a "senseless war" waged on behalf of Israel. The criticism came from Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and former diplomat John Kent, who both voiced their opposition to the escalating conflict.

In a post on X, Greene blamed the Trump administration for using the deaths of two American service members in Jordan to justify further escalation. She was responding to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who described the soldiers as "heroes" whose "sacrifice only stiffens our resolve." Greene countered that the soldiers had not willingly sacrificed themselves but had been killed in a war being waged "on behalf of a foreign country, Israel." She wrote, "You mean their deaths fuel your bloodlust for a senseless war."

Separately, Kent warned that US air attacks were failing and that a ground campaign would cause heavy American casualties and further destabilize the region, according to Al Jazeera. He noted that the martyrdom of Iran's former Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei had "backfired" by rallying Iranians behind the government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Kent called for the removal of US troops, bases, and naval forces from the region, describing them as liabilities. He suggested that Washington should instead offer sanctions relief in exchange for guarantees protecting navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Mehr News Agency, these statements reflect growing dissent among former Trump allies against the administration's Iran policy, which they argue is driven by Israeli interests rather than American ones.
