Iran summons German ambassador over Berlin's anti-Iran positions

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned German Ambassador Axel Wilhelm Dittmann on Thursday in response to remarks by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and what Tehran described as Berlin's unjustified and destructive approach to regional and Iranian issues. The meeting was held with Alireza Yousefi, Director-General for Western Europe at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, who conveyed Iran's strong protest.

During the meeting, Yousefi rejected the German Chancellor's claims regarding Iran as baseless. He emphasized the need for Germany to correct its approach toward Iran and regional matters. Yousefi also referred to Germany's military and political support for Israel, stating that the people of the region and the world consider the German government complicit in what he described as genocide and other crimes committed by Israel against Palestinians and other countries in the region.

The summoning reflects ongoing tensions between Iran and Germany over the conflict in Gaza and broader regional policies. Iran has repeatedly criticized Western nations, including Germany, for their backing of Israel. The German government has not yet issued a public response to the summons.

According to Mehr News, the Iranian diplomat's remarks underscored Tehran's dissatisfaction with Berlin's stance and its call for a change in Germany's position on regional issues.
